Eastserve's Wi-fi hotspots
Symera Eastserve, is creating one of the largest pay-as-you-go community ‘hot spot’ areas in UK. Anyone can sign up for Eastserve’s affordable wi-fi internet access for as little as £1 for up to 24 hours, £5 per week, or £15 per month.
Selected hot spots are already available in east Manchester, and the area will have complete coverage by the end of the year.
Eastserve was set up in 2000 to tackle the digital divide in east Manchester and to increase the number of residents owning a computer and accessing the internet as well as improving their IT skills. Over its history some 5,500 local residents have received a subsidised computer and been on computer training courses.
Currently Eastserve has over 1,000 paying customers signed up to their wireless broadband service and also offers a variety of additional services, for example, affordable PC repair for users and non-users, and wireless routers, from are base at the Mill Street Venture Centre in Openshaw.
Nigel Walker, Managing Director of Symera Eastserve, added: “Since acquiring Eastserve last year we have been implementing the latest technology to ensure we have a thoroughly professional, reliable, high speed network able to match any of the more expensive fixed line providers. Our service is based on total flexibility and delivering what people want, hence no contracts, no connection fees, no requirement for a land line, and a pay as you go monthly facility.
Now we can also offer extremely low cost internet connectivity for home or business users, visitors or anyone on the move in east Manchester through this new network of “hot spots”. This heralds an exciting future, and east Manchester is right at the forefront.”
